Apna Ghar means “our home” in hindi, it is also the name of the non profit that helps women who deal with domestic violence get help. It was founded by five women who saw the barriers immigrant women were facing to get help getting away from domestic violence. They specialize in helping immigrant women because they additionally have to deal with language and cultural barriers that prevent them from getting help. They have a 24 hour hotline and shelter, counseling, legal advocacy to help get through the US legal system and a supervised visitation center for children to see their non custodial parent in the presence of a trained worker. They empower women to make better lives and give them all the resources to do it.
