Happy Friday/Mexican Independence/5 days from Autumn day!
September – month of my heart – really knows how to make the most of its time here. Some folks celebrate National Literacy Month in September, others Hispanic Heritage, and still others take time in September to remember the often unsung heroes – guide dogs. Excellent work, September. What else you got going on, maybe some good we can get in on this weekend?
Of course!
Friday, September 16 – Sunday, September 18
Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements
There’s a new festival in town and if we’re giving out prizes based on name alone, we’re giving this one all of our gold medals. They have the goods to back it up, too. A free, three-day outdoor celebration in big, beautiful Eckhart Park (site of my first ever home run in co-ed recreational softball), “Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements hopes to reinvent the traditions of Vaudeville for a 21st century audience – a live mash up of art forms and entertainment under one umbrella.” If you missed Renegade Craft Fair last weekend (for shame!), you get another shot at local, handmade goodies here, in addition to a giant farmer’s market, family friendly rides and games, loads of phenomenal bands, and performances by El Circp Cheapo cabaret. It’s like someone plucked this straight from my dreams and stuck it in a park in the middle of Chicago.

If you find your good time this weekend somewhere in all of that, let us know all about it! But whatever you do, make sure you find your good somewhere. I’m going to leave you with one last thing here, just for good measure, just because it’s Friday, and it’s National Guide Dog/Literacy/Hispanic Heritage/Feel Great About Everything All the Time month. See you on the flip side, friends.
