It’s that time of year again- the DoGooder Awards are back!

Compelling cause-based video has the ability to advance social change and create real impact. If your organization produces creative, inspiring videos, we think you deserve recognition for the work you’re doing – and maybe even some incredible prizes.

The DoGooder Video Awards are taking submissions starting February 1st, 2014. The contest is presented by YouTube, See3 Communications, and the Nonprofit Technology Network with generous sponsorship by Cisco and the National Alliance for Media and Culture, the National Youth Media Network and Zacuto.

Every year we are wowed by the change-makers using this powerful medium to tell stories, raise awareness about critical issues, and inspire action – and this year will be no exception. Organizations and activists are more video savvy than ever. Last year, the DoGooder Awards had nearly 800 entries from over 300 participants. Viewers cast thousands of votes, and nonprofit participants saw a surge of views on YouTube. Innovations in web video are rapidly moving forward – so show off what you’ve done for your cause, and help other do-gooders see what they can do.

These awards aren’t just about judging your work – we’re aiming to have an impact in communities at home, and around the world, too. Cisco will contribute a cash prize to the winner of the Best Nonprofit Video, Zacuto will provide a $500 gift card to the winner of the Funny for Good winner and all winners will be featured on YouTube’s Spotlight channel following the awards. Winners will also receive free registration for next year’s Nonprofit Technology Conference, hosted by NTEN and additional prizes from the National Alliance for Media and Culture.

There are four separate categories in this year’s DoGooder Awards: the ImpactX Award for videos that drove clear real-world impact; Best Nonprofit Video; Funny for Good, recognizing effective use of comedy; and the Youth Media Award, for young people who best communicated their thoughts on pressing cause-related issues. Entries must have been produced between January 1, 2013, and February 15, 2014. Each entrant can submit as many videos as they would like, but are encouraged to submit only their best work.

Here are some quick things to know about entering the awards:

  • Entries cannot exceed 10 minutes in length and are limited to individuals and organizations from the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia. See contest rules here.
  • There are no specific types of issues, causes or missions we are looking for –organizations working toward any cause are welcome to enter.
  • You can submit your videos from February 1st, 2014 until February 15th, 2014.
  • From February 28th to March 10th, voting is open to the public, so be sure to spread the word (by email, Facebook, Google+, Twitter, carrier pigeon, old-fashioned word of mouth) and tell your friends to vote.
  • Entrants in each category must at least be eligible to be members of the YouTube Nonprofit Program (youtube.com/nonprofits). If your organization is not already a member, please sign up before you enter the contest. It’s quick, easy, and free to eligible organizations. If you’re picked as a semifinalist in the contest, YouTube will make sure your organization’s application for membership is approved in time to be eligible for public voting. YouTube has built this program just for nonprofits to give extra leverage to online video and organization channels – it’s worth signing up!
