Emily White Hodge took a minute to share with us about the work of New Moms. New Moms enables, empowers, and equips at-risk adolescent parents and their children. They are focused on breaking the cycle of poverty and change the future for young homeless and near-homeless families in Chicago.
You can learn about their in-kind needs on their Zealous Good Charity Profile Page.
What is the best thing about the work you do?
The best part of the work of New Moms, Inc. is seeing the lives of the adolescent parents we work with transformed. We change hundreds of life stories each year by providing a services and training that lead to economic independence and family stability.
What is the hardest challenge you see as an organization?
Adolescent parents living in poverty face tremendous challenges as they seek to care for themselves and their children and breaking that cycle of poverty is the hardest challenge we face. It takes holistic services and consistent care for our participants to make these changes happen.
New Moms is the lead Chicagoland agency providing long-term assistance to homeless and at-risk adolescent parents and their children. We assist hundreds of families each year through our innovative holistic services model providing supportive housing, case management, and job training.
In addition to the social services provided at New Moms, we also have a social enterprise, Bright Endeavors, that provides paid practicum work experiences for our job training program participants and makes eco-friendly candle and spa products. Bright Endeavors lights the way – it’s a pathway out of poverty toward quality permanent employment for participants.
