Thanks to a generous donation from Groupon Goods, a package of books, toys, and musical instruments have been donated to Concordia Place, a 30-year-old educational organization and Zealous Good charity. Last week the Zealous Good team was given a tour of the facilities and saw first-hand, the incredible impact of the donations.
Every day, more than 300 children, from infants through teens, come from all over the city to learn and grow in a safe environment at one of Concordia’s two sites on the north side of Chicago. The full-day, year-round licensed early learning, preschool, after-school and summer camp programs give them a chance to explore their world through music, art and creative movement. Each room we toured overflowed with color, laughter, and activity.
Concordia Place foundation and corporate giving manager, Nicole Dalesandro, was so grateful for the donation, “In the box of toys we received there were a few musical instruments…we were in need of some replacement instruments for one of our preschool classrooms.”
Dalesandro added that delivering donations to the students is one of the best parts of her job, “I love delivering new books to our after-school program because they (the kids) actually scream with joy when handed a new book!”
In addition to early learning and pre-school classes, Concordia Place runs an after-school program for Teens called, “Sprouting Out.” The program teaches teens how to grow produce, which is then used to make terrific fragrant soaps and lotions to sell at local farmer’s markets. “Sprouting Out” teaches teens from all over the city about business and provides 65 paid internships. “Sprouting Out’s” body care line is available for purchase online.
Concordia Place also offers wellness programming for senior citizens. “The teens and the seniors get along so well. It’s great to see the young learning from the old and visa versa,” says Dalesandro.
