Let’s take a second today to be grateful for all the good we have.
For what has so far been an almost suspiciously mild winter.
For the gorgeous dog currently napping at my feet.
For green tea, and also all the access to not just all the teas but to groceries, fresh produce, medicine.
For the care shown me by my family and friends, and for the small, daily compassions and unsolicited kindnesses from strangers.
For creature comforts great and small, for a warm and cozy corner to call home.
I hope to enjoy these nuanced luxuries well into old age. I hope that we all do.
Today’s featured member, Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly, or H.O.M.E. is founded on a similar hope. That all of our elderly loved ones and neighbors should retain the comforts and quality of a dignified life.
We are proud to partner with organizations that represent and advocate for people and families from all walks of life. H.O.M.E. is unique in its specific emphases on ensuring care and quality of life for the elderly, an often overlooked segment of the population.
H.O.M.E. helps Chicago’s underserved, low-income seniors maintain their independence by providing services unlike any organization in the City of Chicago. H.O.M.E.’s services include free home maintenance and repair to ensure seniors enjoy healthy and safe living conditions. Free shopping transportation assists seniors who have limited mobility or live in food deserts to have access to groceries, pharmacies and medical services that are essential to their well-being. H.O.M.E. also owns and manages three affordable buildings where seniors can choose between two styles of living – individual apartments or shared living for residents who need some assistance.
H.O.M.E. has been serving Chicago’s low-income seniors for 30 years – in that time, they have consistently evolved to include more effective and comprehensive services to those who need them, as well as establishing a novel intergenerational housing model that has since become the best-practices model for elderly living facilities.
H.O.M.E. also boasts an impressive track record of funneling donations largely to its Programs and Services, so that those assisted are the direct beneficiaries of the Chicago community’s generosity. We are thrilled to help H.O.M.E. increase the direct impact made in the lives of senior citizens through in-kind donations.
You may consider donating household goods, non-perishable food items, winter and leisure clothing, as well as gift cards to home goods and grocery stores to H.O.M.E. Check out their full wish list here!
