Remember in 2000 when Mel Gibson told women what they wanted?
As it turns out, his mind reading powers are not real. He does not know what women are thinking and he certainly doesn’t know what charities want. But Zealous Good does! Today we’re shining a spotlight on a lesser known wishlist “item” that charities wish you knew they wanted: Services!
At Zealous Good we primarily deal in tangible items: couches, tennis racquets, calculators. But we also offer the option to donate services. For example, ArtReach is in need of someone with computer skills to help rebuild their website. Common Roots Initiative is in need of someone to donate their “professional services” to raffle off in an auction.
Charities: Are you looking for tutors? Help around the office? Someone to teach your community the ancient art of Karate? List the service you’re looking for in the “Specific Needs” section of your charity profile. Be as detailed as possible so donors can know right away if it’s a good fit for them.
Donors: Take inventory of all your talents. Brush up or learn a new skill to share by taking a Dabble class. Make your mom doubly proud when you tell her you took up piano again and are teaching it to low-income youth. Once you’ve determined your skill-set, search our charities needing services and see who needs you!
Lastly, I’ll end this with a quote that use to hang on my bedroom wall growing up, “Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.” –Henry Van Dyke
