What’s Good in November

November ushers in the giving season, the season to show thanks, the layers-season. So bundle up and head out to these awesome charitable, informative, and inspirational events taking place this month:

November 2: Virgo Project Consulting hosts its 4th guerilla consulting event which will provide FREE one-on-one consulting for nonprofits interested in identifying and executing sustainable revenue models for their organization.

November 3: The Arts of Life 4th Annual Chili Cookoff: Sponsored by Half Acre Brewery, this annual event brings together chili lovers, people with and without disability, and anyone who enjoys supporting a great cause. All proceeds go towards The Arts of Life, a community of artists with and without disabilities working together to grow as individuals and create a sustainable non profit organization.

Wilmette student, Joshua Wilens, will host a sports equipment donation drive on Sunday November 4 & 11

November 4 & 11: Sports Equipment donation drive: Joshua Wilens, 12-year-old Wilmette student, will collect various sports equipment donations for five Zealous Good charities as part of his Bar Mitzvah service project. He’ll be at the Wilmette Metra station on both Sundays from 1-3 p.m.

November 5: How to Use Mobile and Web to Connect Communities and Do Good panel: This even features speakers from GiveForward, Groupon Grassroots, ClearSpace, and Zealous Good’s very own Brittany Martin Graunke.

November 7: Philanthropy Club meeting: Eric Lugo of JPMorgan Chase will teach you best practices for developing a winning social media campaign geared toward online giving programs driven by community votes. The event is FREE and takes place at Lawrence Hall Youth Services 65 East Wacker Place 13th floor, 9:00 am- 10:30 am.

November 10:

Bridge to Success Donor Day: The nonprofit, which enhances employment opportunities for at-risk, low-income, no-income men, women, and young adults by providing high-end interview and workplace appropriate clothing, coupled with coaching, is collecting winter clothes form 9:00 a.m. to noon at St. Francis of Assisi Church on South Newberry Avenue.

St. Vincent De Paul Center Annual Homeless Outreach Luncheon: Now in it’s 37th year, the center will open its doors on Saturday, November 10, to over 500 homeless men, women, and children. These families and individuals are invited to share a traditional Thanksgiving meal, with over 300 volunteers and staff members, who will be on hand to create a warm and welcoming environment. Volunteers are needed!

Ronald McDonald service event: Join members of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) in making breakfast for patients and families from Lurie’s Children Hospital. There is also the opportunity to do an activity with the children after breakfast.

November 11: Veterans of a Different Kind of War Benefit: Support those who have survived and continue to survive personal wars being waged every day including violence, poverty, discrimination, addiction, and illness. The event takes place at The Underground Wonder Bar from 2 p.m.- 10 p.m. and includes live music, dancing and a basement bazaar.

November 13: i.c.stars Tech Bash: Connect and network with celebrity chefs, senior tech executives, friends and colleagues in the IT community. Plus meet with over 40 CIOs.

November 14: Retirement Planning for Nonprofit Professionals: Presented by First Nonprofit Insurance Agency, this informative presentation will guide you through the maze by teaching you the basics of retirement planning.


And remember, if you can’t make it to any of the events you can still support these and many other Zealous Good organizations by making a charity donation. Be thankful for all you have and give what you can!
