Updating your home or office décor? Have a rug or carpet that doesn’t fit the new style? Consider donating rugs to charities in need to make a difference. If you’re in Chicago, use Zealous Good to submit your donation and we’ll get requests for the donated rug sent directly to your inbox.
If you’re not in Chicago, here are some ideas of organizations that could benefit from your rug donation and how to find them.
Workforce Development Agencies
Workforce development agencies help people who are formerly homeless and currently out of work to gain skills that are necessary for attaining and keeping gainful employment. These folks are working hard to get their lives on track and often are just starting out in a new home. Your donated rug could make their new home feel warm and more like a home.
Homeless shelters could use your rug or carpet to make their space look more homey and inviting. As you can imagine, shelters can often be places where people are down in the dumps. A rug can warm up a room to make it feel less like a shelter and more like a home.
You can find a homeless shelter near you on the Homeless Shelter Directory.
Schools can place your rug in classrooms to make the space cozier. If you’re looking for where to donate rugs, you could also look at public universities that could give the rugs to students who might need them in dorms.
For school donations, you can reach out to the vice principal, the local PTA, or swing by the school and ask who would be best to contact about the donation.
