It’s not even November yet and we are already starting to dig out winter gear from the closet, or buying new ones. Winters here mean bundling up to the extreme and unfortunately there are a lot of people in need that don’t have access to the best clothes to survive the cold. So if you’re digging through your closet and find old winter clothes that you don’t need anymore or if you are upgrading and are thinking about getting rid of last years gear, think about donating to a charity in need!
Besides winter clothes, there are other donations that charities look for during the winter holidays, so please check out our blog on What Charities Need in During the Holidays to learn more on how you can help!
Before you donate your winter clothes, please consider the following tips:
1. Make sure there are no rips or holes in the clothes that will make them unusable or un-wearable.
2. If possible, wash your items before donating.
That was easy! Now you’re ready to help people keep warm during the coming winter months!
If you’re in the Chicago or Dallas area, you can use Zealous Good to match you with several local organizations that are actually looking for that specific item and will therefore profit the most from it. If you don’t live in Chicago or Dallas, here are some other places that would value your donation:
Shelters are able to give homeless people food to eat and a roof over their head, but it’s hard for them to distribute clothing, especially winter clothing, because it runs out so quickly. With your donation, shelter guests will be able to keep warm this winter!
To find a homeless shelter near you check out the homeless shelter directory.
This organization not only helps homeless people in the U.S., it also helps victims of natural disasters and people in need around the world. The Red Cross is always in need of winter clothing donations, so go online and find a Red Cross near you!
Churches are always collecting donations to give out the less fortunate. Because of this, they are always at an ongoing need for these items, especially winter clothing. Search online to find your local church and donate today!
Some students unfortunately don’t have the resources to buy good winter clothing to keep them warm. Call your nearest school or university and see if they accept winter clothes donations to give to their students in need!
Again, if you’re in the Chicago or Dallas area, use Zealous Good to submit your donation and we’ll easily match you with a local charity that could use it!
