When you look around your house for items to donate, your car may not be the first thing that comes to mind. But there are many charities that would be thrilled to use a car that you no longer need. Instead of selling or trading in a used car consider donating it to an organization that would be able give your car a second life helping out some folks who really need it.
If you’re ready to let go of ‘ole Betsey and you’re in Chicago, it’s as easy as using Zealous Good to find out exactly which charities can put your car to good use. If you’re not in Chicago, here are some ways charities would really appreciate the donation!
Some charities like Donate for Charity, Kars4Kidz and Habitat for Humanity have special programs set up to sell the cars that you donate. These programs will use the money from the sale to help expand and continue the great work that the organization is doing. When researching and selecting which charity you’d like to donate your car to, reach out to them to find out if they have a program like this to help expedite the process along.
Recycling For A Second Go:
Other charities like Wheels4Hope are able to give or loan out your cars to individuals who would not be able to afford one. They’re able to provide shared or personal transportation to families and individuals to and from work or school.
Directly Helping the Charity:
A car can also be used at a charity to help for administrative purposes. Instead of having to spend funds on purchasing transportation the donation of your car enables the charity to use those funds to keep helping others directly! Having a car would also help the organization transport heavier and larger options not suited to public transportation, which might not be available in the community.
So while it not be the first item that comes to your mind, the next time you have a chance, consider donating your favorite ride to a charitable organization. Below are three helpful guides to help in starting the paperwork and research process.
