The day has finally come: your husband finally agrees to remodel the living room, and you’ve already started selecting the new, beautiful furniture you’re going to buy. But what to do with your old belongings? If you’re looking for an easy way to have your old sofa, recliner, or table removed while doing some social good at the same time, consider giving to a local charity. There are countless charitable organizations that can provide used furniture pick-up and will put your gently-used belongings to good use!
If you are looking for a used furniture pick-up in the Chicago Metro Area, you can submit your furniture donation on Zealous Good. Our straightforward donating process lets you request to have your donation picked up and see which of our over 300 Chicago charities need your item! If you are outside the Chicagoland area, here are some other options to consider:
- The Furniture Bank Association: Furniture banks can send your donations to families that are struggling financially so they can furnish their own homes. Click here to see if there is a bank in your area that can come take your furniture.
- United Way: If you donate to United Way, your furniture can go to a homeless shelter, a battered women’s shelter, or to a refugee resettlement program. Contact your local United Way for information on groups in your area.
- Donation Town: Donation Town will actually find local charities that will pick up donations for you, and then let you choose which charity to donate items to! The donation can be scheduled online here.
- The Salvation Army: The Salvation Army can use your donation to stock their resale stores (sales from which fund their many charitable programs) or to furnish their homeless shelters. Click here to have them come get your donation!
Habitat for Humanity: They will likely sell your donation too, and use the proceeds to build and repair houses all over the world. You can arrange a pick-up here.
Vietnam Veterans of America: Proceeds from their donation sales fund their programs for veterans, and the charity will retrieve donations from your home even if you can’t be present. You can schedule a donation here.
So, no matter where you are and the state of your furniture, you can find a place for it today. Schedule a used furniture pick-up today; hopefully you can find a great new home for it at the same time!
