Before we step into October with boots on and arms open, let’s take a moment to reflect on September, month of multitudes.
We bid our farewells to a wild and productive and occasionally uncomfortably sweaty summer and welcomed autumn, champion season. We updated our LinkedIn profiles, allowing our friends and colleagues to know the content of our bleeding hearts a little better, and we took some minutes to appreciate the value of the dollar (you see what I did there? You see.). Maybe we welled up a little – just a little! – reading the tale of the in-kind human connection, and we definitely got our back-to-school kits in order.
I also spent a weekend in the borderland wilderness between Minnesota and Canada and re-calibrated my sense of self in a vast and unknowable universe. It was very colorful.
But that’s not all! <Cue The Price is Right music>
Our Zealous family grew with the addition of three truly phenomenal organizations:
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the oldest charity in Chicago and named for a humble humanitarian who once outsmarted the treachery of pirates.
Year Up Chicago, equalizing a profoundly uneven playing field by equipping low-income and at-risk Chicagoans with the professional and technical skills to independently thrive.
Bridge to Success, a South Loop storefront that provides not only professional attire and interview prep, but also self-confidence, the original power tie.
Member organizations and friends of Zealous Good hosted successful fundraisers and celebrations:
The Cara Program celebrated 20 years of service in style with 650 of their closest friends, and raised over $215,000! Barkeep, a round of high fives for my good friend, Cara!
St. Vincent de Paul Center and Marillac Social Center hosted a sold out event at Sunda and unveiled their You + Me = We campaign for children’s tuition. The event raised over $14,000 – all of which will go to families who wish to enroll their children in the centers’ child development programs. Amazing work, per usual!
We are absolutely bananas for the Chicago Sun-Times Charity Trust Sun Shine Project:
As of this morning, The Sun Shine Project tallies over 7,000 votes and 3,000 comments in their grantmaking campaign that has attracted over 300 nonprofits doing inspiring work for Chicago youth. Voting remains open until October 9 – register and vote today, and every day, for your favorite organizations!
It has been a tremendous month for Zealous Good, but now is no time to let up; the good work is never done! We’ve got more great announcements and events ahead, more organizations coming aboard, and yes, more donation requests to share with you. So eyes clear, hearts open, folks. Let’s get our hands on October.
